Why? Why? Why?

Why is everyone standing by and watching Israel commit genocide?

Sharon announces to the world he is giving up the settlements in Gaza. What he didn't say was that he was going to destroy the place first. What is going on in Rafah? He says he is clearing the border area so that the tunnels through which the Palestinians are said to be getting armaments, are no longer a threat to Israel. What is he on about? These tunnels at best can permit a few guns to come through but hardly tanks, helicopter gunships etc. So whatever the arms are they are hardly likely to threaten Israel.

Janet Davies of Friends of Sabeel - a Christian Palestinian organisation - spoke movingly at the Remember Chernobyl event on April 25th - about the horror of living in the Palestinian ghettos where Israelis drive their tanks in and destroy houses and community facilities.

The full horror is described on P2 in a letter from Gila Svirsky which ends with a list of people you can write to.

Why is our government involved in/ supporting genocide in Iraq?

How do our leaders differ from Saddam Hussein? The US used chemical weapons against innocent Vietnamese. Saddam used them against the Kurds. Saddam tortured and killed opponents, the US and probably British army are torturing and killing Iraq captives. US bombing attacks on so-called insurgents are killing innocent people (including some who originally supported the invasion). Even US Marines are starting to question the conduct of this war (P7). The occupation has been a disaster. We should get out now.

Why are you not doing something about it instead of just worrying?

Are you just despairing of the situation, and your powerlessness> Writing letters does have an effect - but it's numbers that count. The more letters MPs get the more they take notices. If you visit with a few friends they are even more impressed.

In the Elections on June 10th show your support for candidates who have taken a stand against the war: Greens, Respect/ Unity, some Lib Dems and some Labour candidates.
