| Another world is possible European Social Forum 200415-17th October - London A giant gathering of thousands of activists and organisations campaigning for another world. Three days of international debate on the theme of “how to achieve global social justice, peace, genuine democracy, the priority of human needs over corporate power”. Main themes: Peace not War; Democracy and fundamental rights; Social justice and solidarity; Corporate globalisation and global justice; Against racism, discrimination and the far right; Environmental crisis and a sustainable planet . Main speakers include:- John Pilger, George Monbiot; Susan George; Aleida Guevara Other events : films , videos, music, concert. Final day: march and rally in Trafalgar Sq. Naming the DeadA vigil –Nov 2nd Since the invasion of Iraq in March 03 more than 25,000 people have been killed in that country. On Nov 2nd the people of USA elect their President. On that day we will remember those who have died in this war; the civilians, men, women and children who have been killed through indiscriminate bombing of their homes; those killed in the prison camps of Iraq . We will commemorate the soldiers of all nationalities who have died. In Trafalgar Square , London there will be a reading of the names of the dead which will begin at 5.0pm and we hope will last for 24 hours. The public will be invited to join in. We call on volunteers and organisers all over the world to join us and make November 2nd a day at which we can pay tribute to the dead and show our solidarity with the Iraqi people. We wish as many people as possible to take part. Can you organise an event in your area? Let us ( Merseyside CND) and also 7days@stopwar.org.uk know if you can. Let us make this a really memorable occasion for the citizens of the world to extend the arm of friendship to the citizens of Iraq .  |
